Hi gang in MTE 549. I would like to use this site to talk about our long strange trip at UOP. Please post only KEWL comments about how our education has been positive, negative, frustrating, or exciting. I am looking forward to seeing all of your comments, and commenting on all of your sites too!
Thanks,
Chuckey

Over all, I've enjoyed my experience here at UofP. However, that is only because of all of you. It really does make a difference who you work with. Even if you hate your boss, you can endure if you have good people to work with, and that is all of you.
ReplyDeleteThat would be Kewl if the schools site worked along the way through UoP too.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, UoP hasn't been too difficult for me in comparison to other colleges I've been to. They do a great job trying but they don't cut the slack like I believe a Masters program should.
ReplyDeleteThe work itself has not been difficult, and I do feel like I am learning some things to take with me. However, I some of the technical aspects have distracted from the education. We are expected to use TaskStream, but the only reason we have been given for this is for accredidation purposes. Um, really? So EVERY school does that? I would be surprised. We only get the etext, which is effecient for them, a pain for us. The instructors all seem qualified to teach the subjects, but too many have been lacking in the execution of their duties. We have been taught way we are supposed to teach through the classes, and ways not to teach from our instructors. This of course, is NOT universal, but it has happened more often than not. It ultimately comes down to whether or not I would recommend the program. I would, but with caveats.
ReplyDeleteYou know...I havent minded the program here so much, but I haven't really been stoked about it either. The thing I really can't stand about UofP is that every professor is on a different page. Sure they run the classes all the same, but they're not consistent. Like Lori said some of them are just lacking in many aspects. If we were at a traditional university we would have to go to classes more, and we wouldn't be able to work as much as we do...except for you chuck. ;) BUT, at those universities those professors are all part of the same department, having departmental meetings together, and they are all pretty much on the same page of what theories they need/want to teach to their students. Here it seems that all teachers are different, from different walks of life, and different educational backgrounds and they all want us to teach differently.
ReplyDeleteI would recommend this school to other people, and probably the program, especially for it's convenience, but I do not feel challenged or pushed at all....except for in lame classes that want way too much work than necessary...but that's another post, another gripe-y answer. :)
that's all...i'll stop now.
